Taking care of your WC so it lasts more than 10 years
Taking care of your WC so it lasts more than 10 years
Nov 27, 2024

As with many things in our life, we have to take care of it so that they can flourish, and in the case of our WCs, last a long time! Did you know that a toilet bowl’s typical lifespan is 10 to 15 years? It can be even longer if it’s well taken care of. Read on to find out what are the things to look out for so your throne stays gleaming even after 10 years!

1. Cleaning and Maintenance - Do not let the blue cleaning tablets do the job.

Blue cleaning tablets can do more harm than good for your toilet bowl. What you think might be a convenient way to keep your toilet bowl clean is in fact setting you up for higher chances of leaks in the future. The caustic chemicals found in these tablets can corrode and wear out flush components over time, leading up to leaks or damaged flushing.

We recommend to avoid any use of these cleaning tablets and clean your toilet the ‘standard’ way which is sufficient for upkeep and long use.

2. Cleaning and maintenance - Always do a thorough rinse off after any cleaning session.

We get it. Sometimes, our toilet bowls need a good soak in cleaning solution to ensure the grime loosens and everything gets scrubbed off. However, do take note to always rinse the solution off thoroughly instead of letting it sit for too long or forever.

This is because there are other parts that sit within the toilet bowl’s porcelain body such as seat cover screws or flush buttons. When exposed to these solutions for prolonged periods of time, they chemically react to these chemical solutions resulting in damaged parts. As such, we always recommend for these solutions to avoid contact where possible and for a thorough rinse off to ensure the solution is all cleared off.

Where possible, it would also be best to remove seat covers for cleaning as seat covers should avoid contact with chemical solutions as well due to their nature as plastics.

3. Usage - Allow soft closing seat covers to close naturally without pressing down.

Let soft closing seat covers do their work! Do not forcefully close them shut or slam them down to avoid the soft closing mechanism from damaging. This can help keep your seat covers lasting a long time before it’s time to replace them.

For optimal usage, you can let go of the seat cover once the soft-close mechanism starts to do its work, and go about your other business!

How long has your WC been around? We hope they last even longer with these tips on how to take care of them!
